Cooking without Killing!

Cooking without Killing!

Let me tell you about going to the Food Co-Op to take a little class on Vegan Cooking. Yes, the Man and I are going Vegan; he, for health and I, because I don't want to eat or otherwise disturb, hurt, or torment little, or big, creatures. So now, I will even eschew my beloved butter. From now on it will be "Earth Balance"! Or olive oil or nothing! There is something called (Lord, forgive them) "Veganaise"! Ayeeeeeeee! But I don't know if I have the heart even to taste it. It will not be Helman's. Of that I am totally sure. So perhaps I should just think of it as a sandwich spread that can also be used on salad, with enough vinegar and garlic added!!

But I must report that the food was positively delicious. The Man was well pleased, even though what we put together for him will be oil-less and salt-less, thereby instantly losing a good deal of tastiness and texture. But if it all works out for him health-wise, perhaps a bit of each of those two elements will be enough to bring up the standard from pretty good to yeeeeeehaaaaaa! Hope so.

I do plan to have a small garden this spring. I think spring comes pretty early in these parts so I will start to plan what, when and where to plant quite soon. I will probably use my five boxes because I don't know what might be in the soil here, especially around the house.

We do have owls in the trees on our side of the street, though I did see a big fellow fly across the street toward the diner there and light on a lamp post arm. It was very interesting to see. I don't believe I ever saw an owl in real life. Just pictures.
My dad said there was a tiny little owl in the avocado tree in our backyard in Curundu Heights, but I never saw or even heard it, though that house was not one I lived in for very long.

Well, it is late and I have a lot to do tomorrow so I will sign off. But come back again. I plan to. We'll meet and have a little more conversation. Tah!
